I love to research and write stories that take place long ago. Of course, the primary purpose of historical fiction is to entertain the reader, to transport her away from the everyday world into an exciting, imaginary setting where beautiful, virtuous ladies wear flowing gowns and the men are noble, brave, and strong. But well-researched historical fiction can also subtly educate the reader about places and times with which she is not familiar. Finally, inspirational historical fiction can enlighten the reader by setting characters in tumultuous times, showing how God has been the strength of our forefathers and foremothers, and revealing hidden corners of history and the courage of those who overcame adversity through the power of Jesus Christ.
